New employees

We have a new employee-focused web page that helps guide a new employee through the process of selecting a retirement plan, if applicable, and includes checklists and resources to help your new employee navigate his retirement benefits.

 

Navigating Your Benefits

Learning about retirement benefits is important for any employee. PEBA has created Navigating Your Benefits as a multimedia campaign to provide common-language explanations on benefits.

 

Secure, online account access

Member Access is the online resource that allows a member of a PEBA-administered retirement plan to view and update their personal information and conduct online transactions such as applying for service retirement benefit. Member Access is safe, secure and available anytime from anywhere with Internet access.

Retirement awareness educational series

PEBA’s retirement awareness series, Be Aware and Prepare, provides members with information that can help them make smart decisions about their financial future. Regardless of how we define retirement awareness, PEBA believes it’s important to plan for a secure financial future and think about life after work.

 

Get Set for Retirement - preretirement seminar

Each fall, PEBA hosts regional seminars designed for employees who are within a few years of retirement eligibility. The regional seminars also include presentations from the Social Security Administration and the South Carolina Deferred Compensation Program. Employees can register online.

 

Retirement Starts Now - mid-career seminar

It is difficult to understand the importance of taking action to save and invest when you are a long way from being eligible to retire. On average, PEBA’s retirement plans provide about 50 percent of active employment income. At best, Social Security may provide up to 40 percent. While this may seem sufficient at first glance, there are a lot of other variables to consider. Retirement Starts Now is targeted toward helping employees in the middle of their careers understand what steps they need to take to prepare for retirement. PEBA’s YouTube channel features a variety of videos designed to provide you with overviews of your retirement benefits and to highlight topics of which you might otherwise be unaware.
